Tout en céramique: Hand-Painted Ceramic Studio in France

Tout en céramique is a ceramic studio in Le Vésinet, in the Yvelines, west of Paris, and every piece that leaves it has been painted by hand. This page is the plain answer to a plain question: who we are, what we make, what it costs, and what happens between your first email and the parcel arriving at your door.

The studio: Tout en céramique, Le Vésinet, France

Tout en céramique is the studio of Laurence Brecher, ceramicist. She paints each piece herself, in enamel, on the workbench, then fires it in the kiln. In 2025 her work on the restoration of old facade decoration was awarded the Prix du Ravalement de Versailles, the facade restoration prize of the city of Versailles.

The address matters less than what it says about the way the work is organized. There is no production line at Tout en céramique and no printing machine in the back room. Pieces are made to order, one at a time, by the person who signs them.

What Tout en céramique makes

The catalog is easier to describe by what a piece is for than by what it is called.

For the front of a house. House numbers, house name signs and address plaques. A number by the gate and a name above the door can be drawn in the same hand and the same colors, so the whole entrance reads as one piece of work. Inside the house. Wall pieces and murals, and kitchen splashbacks painted to the exact size of the wall behind your stove.

For businesses. Shop signs, painted for one storefront rather than cut from a standard board.

For buildings. Frieze restoration on facades. When a ceramic frieze on an old house has been damaged or partly lost, we redraw the missing motif from the tiles that are still there, then paint it and fire it. That is the work that earned the Versailles prize.

For occasions. Personalized keepsakes, including ceramic wedding favors, pieces made to mark a date such as a pottery anniversary gift, and the night sky tile, which is the sky of one particular date painted on ceramic.

How a piece is made at Tout en céramique

Every piece is painted in enamel by hand, then fired in a kiln, one at a time. Nothing is printed. Nothing is engraved.

That distinction is worth understanding before you choose a material, because the three techniques are not variations on each other. On a printed sign, the image is ink laid on top of a surface. On an engraved sign, the letters are cut into the material and filled. Here the color is enamel, applied with a brush, and the firing takes the enamel and the clay up together, so the design ends up fired into the glaze rather than sitting on it.

The second consequence of hand work is that no two pieces come out identical. The brushwork, the weight of a letter, the small irregularity along a border: those belong to your tile and to no other. You are not picking a template from a dropdown menu, which is also why we can follow the color of your front door, a motif from your hallway floor, or the lettering on a sign that was already there when you moved in.

What a commission costs at Tout en céramique

All prices are in euros. There are two price lists, one for France and the European Union, one for the United States, and they are not the same list, so read the one that matches your address.

In France and the European Union

For the United States

These prices include shipping and import duties. Nothing to pay on arrival.

They are higher than the European ones for one reason: they already contain the flight and the customs. If the sign is for a house on the water, we have a page on the lake house sign. We quote in euros only and we never convert for you, because your bank sets the rate on the day you pay.

Wall pieces, murals, kitchen splashbacks, shop signs and facade friezes are priced project by project, because the price depends on the surface and on the drawing. Tell us the size and roughly what you have in mind and we will put a real number on it. Let us talk about your project before anything else: we would much rather understand what you are trying to do than send you a price list.

From your first email to the parcel

The way a commission runs at Tout en céramique is deliberately short.

1. You write to us. A sentence is enough to start. A size, a color, a photo of the wall or the door helps. We reply usually within the hour during Paris working hours.
2. We send you a free mock-up. You see the layout, the lettering and the colors on your own project, on screen, before you have spent anything.
3. You approve it, or you change it. Nothing is painted before you say yes. If the first version is not right, we adjust it and send it back. There is no limit on that and no obligation at the end of it.
4. Laurence paints it and fires it. Enamel on the tile, then the kiln, one piece at a time.
5. We pack it and ship it. Carefully, because ceramic is ceramic.

Shipping from Tout en céramique, and the customs question

Inside the European Union there is no customs to think about. The parcel travels like any other parcel. Delivery within France is 18 €.

For Switzerland, Tout en céramique covers the customs charges. You are not asked for anything on arrival.

For the United States, the shipping and the import duties are already inside the price shown above. There is no separate delivery line to add, and no bill waiting at your door. Since August 29, 2025, the United States has charged import duties on parcels from the first dollar, and the old $800 exemption no longer exists. That is exactly why Tout en céramique carries those duties itself: a piece that was meant as a gift should not arrive with a customs invoice taped to the box.
